Here's a little preview

Since September 2017, six unique variations of the program have been performed, ranging from sacred spaces in Toronto and Oakville to a nature sanctuary in Rosseau, Ontario. Daniella and Suzanne also released a limited edition CD entitled "The Eternal Feminine" in 2018, which features American composer Lori Laitman's song cycle The Years.

This Spring, Daniella and Suzanne are delighted to make their return to live performance at Toronto’s Beth Tikvah Synagogue. Each work on the program was either created by a female composer, or was inspired by a female character. This unique edition of The Eternal Feminine will include beautiful works by contemporary Jewish female creators like Lori Laitman, Ellen Mandel, and Joelle Wallach.

Also included on the program will be pieces by Boskovich, Debussy, Liza Lehmann, Pauline Viardot, Rodgers & Hart, and Canada’s own Amice Calverley.

Daniella Theresia is a classically trained mezzo-soprano originally from the United States. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Lawrence University (Appleton, Wisconsin), Daniella embarked on a musical journey that has since taken her all over the world. She has appeared in concert performances in North America, Germany, Italy, and Israel. In 2013, Daniella made aliyah and relocated to Tel Aviv, where she studied privately with the internationally renowned pedagogue Professor Tamar Rachum-Roth (Buchmann-Mehta School of Music, Tel Aviv University).

Since moving to Canada in 2017, Daniella has performed in productions with Toronto Masque Theatre, Opera by Request, Toronto City Opera, Opera for All, and the Etobicoke Centennial Choir. Daniella is a co-host of The Art Song Podcast, for which she also performs and contributes original articles, and a co-founder of Opera Sustenida, a new collaborative ensemble bringing a fresh take on opera through innovative virtual staging and hybrid concerts.

Daniella maintains a private music studio in Oakville and performs regularly as soloist and professional ensemble member throughout the Greater Toronto Area. She lives in Oakville with her husband and fellow musician David Finneran, their cat friend, and an ever-growing collection of houseplants. When not singing, Daniella can be found in her gardens, experimenting in the kitchen, or exploring nature. (www.DaniellaTheresia.com)

Toronto-based pianist and conductor Suzanne Yeo has performed in North America, Europe and Asia, to much praise for the intensity and sensitivity of her interpretations. After obtaining her M. Mus. in piano performance at the University of Toronto, she gravitated towards the sphere of collaborative piano as a result of her long-standing affinity for opera and Lieder.

In 2019 she acted as répétiteur at the Miami Music Festival. In 2020, Suzanne co-founded Opera Sustenida, an opera collective noted for its wittily modern takes on the standard repertoire. Suzanne most recently appeared as a conductor with Toronto City Opera in their Markham performance of Nabucco (2021), and was chosen to be one of Orchestra Toronto's Apprentice Conductors for 2022.

Apart from her musical interests, Suzanne enjoys reading, discovering new restaurants, and playing an occasional game of poker. (www.SuzanneYeo.com)

We first met while attending the Stratford Vocal Academy (Ontario) in 2017. An early conversation about our mutual fondness for early Schoenberg (yes, Schoenberg!) formed the basis for our initial connection, which was further developed through a shared love of Asian cuisine and ice cream (sometimes we even enjoy both at once!). Our first concert together was “The Eternal Feminine: Part Two” in 2018 and we have enjoyed numerous collaborations since then, including “Cosy Così” (2019) and “Viennese Delights” (2020).

In the summer of 2020, we launched The Art Song Podcast whose inaugural series “The Eternal Feminine Podcast Series” explored works created by female composers and poets like Clara Schumann, Fanny Hensel, Radclyffe Hall, Augusta Holmès, and Liza Lehmann. Each podcast episode discussed one musical work, with an accompanying performance video, original article, and select bibliography. We loved learning about these fascinating women’s lives and hope that our podcast will help others to discover and celebrate their musical contributions. (www.ArtSong-Podcast.com

We are thrilled to finally be returning to live performance today after the past two years of livestreams and virtual events. We are delighted that you have joined us this afternoon and hope that you enjoy our program!
