Rabbi Philip Scheim serves as Rabbi Emeritus of Beth David B’nai Israel Beth Am, where he has been a guiding spiritual force for over 40 years. Ordained in 1981 by the Jewish Theological Seminary—where he earned an M.A. in Rabbinics and awards in Jewish Philosophy and Homiletics—Rabbi Scheim began his rabbinic journey at Beth David shortly after completing his B.A. in Jewish Studies at McGill University.

Following the passing of Rabbi Albert Pappenheim, Rabbi Scheim became Senior Rabbi in 1984, a role in which he led with wisdom, compassion, and dedication for decades. A past president of the International Rabbinical Assembly, he has held leadership roles across the Conservative Movement and contributed to significant initiatives, including Megillat HaShoah, a Holocaust liturgy co-created with support from Beth David members.

A passionate supporter of Israel, Rabbi Scheim has led more than twenty solidarity missions to the country and remains active in Zionist and charitable organizations in Canada, the U.S., and Israel. Today, he continues to support Beth David with pride and gratitude, honoured to be part of its vibrant clergy team.
